Remote controlled boats are a lot of fun for both professionals and amateurs! For me, this is a hobby that allows some relaxation and fun time with friends or family, but for many passionate fans, RC boating is more than just a game.

You can find lots of advanced boats for sale online and, to help you choose the best for your needs, I put together a top 10 best remote control boats for your money with pros and cons. This way, you can’t make the wrong decision!

My top at RC Rank includes gorgeous designs for both beginners and experts, and I considered everyone’s budget. So, there’s nothing else to do but take a look below and choose the model that suits you the best!

Radio Ranger II 34″ (Top Remote Control Fishing Boat)

Remote control system: 2.4 GHz 34″ pistol design

Battery: 7.2V-1800mah boat battery

Run time: 20 – 30 minutes

Battery charging time: 6 hours

Range: 300 – 400 feet

Length: Almost 3 feet

Special features: RC fishing pole

If you’re looking for a boat that’s both fun and practical, the Radio Ranger Model II Fishing Boat is a perfect choice! It is designed to work on ponds or lakes, and it has a remotely controlled fishing hook that you can actually use to catch fish. If you have a helicopter you can easily combine the fun. Find out my leading list of top R/C helicopters for everyone.

The boat is delivered with fishing line, bobber, and hook, so all you have to do is get it out on the lake. Even more, the transmitter is delivered with batteries.

To make things even easier for anglers, the boar implements variable speed (which was not available in the first version of this model).

I like that it’s easy to maintain since everything is plug-and-play. Spare parts are readily available, and you only have to unplug the motors and switch with the new part. The receiver is one of the easiest parts to change if it gets broken. The transmitter is also very well-designed as it won’t be influenced by interferences and can hold up six boats at a time.

The boat is pretty big for small children, so I only recommend it to teenagers and beginners. But keep in mind: this is not a speed boat! Its main purpose is to offer fun on the lake and cast your line at a distance. You can even catch bigger fish with it (4 or 5 lbs.), and it is a lot of fun to use it when you go out on a picnic!

Pros:

  • Responsive and easy to use
  • Variable speed control
  • It is fun to use
  • It actually helps in catching fish
  • Easy to maintain

Cons:

  • Plastic body
  • Not a race boat

Traxxas Spartan: 36″ Race Boat (Must Have)

Remote control system: TQi 2.4 GHz Radio System, 5-channel receiver

Battery: 7-cell NiMH batteries

Run time: Around 10 minutes

Battery charging time: Depends on the battery used

Speed: 30+mph

Special features: Water-cooled, Waterproof VXL-6s Marine ESC, Velineon 540XL brushless engine, Traxxas Stability Management

The Spartan from Traxxas is a piece of art! Designed with a perfect 36″ deep-V hull this baby flies on the water. This is one of the best RC Boats out there for racing, and you can easily see this in the price (which is a bit steep for most enthusiasts).

The inner workings of this boat are made of aluminum, and stainless steel and the hull was built in layers to make it resistant to the water force.

Still, if you do afford it, you’ll get the complete package. The boat can be purchased in two color versions (blue and red), and it is delivered with all the necessary components and transmitter. The included battery will only give you about 30+mph so, if you want more, I recommend buying the 3S LiPo battery that fits this model. With a more powerful battery, you’ll get about 50+mph.

There are several battery trays to allow the user to choose the type of battery or battery configuration they want. The boat supports anything starting with the standard 7-cell Power Cell and ending with the recommended 3S Li-Po.

Everything is waterproof (to protect the electronics), and the boat implements some pretty innovative technologies that allow for high-speed performance and maximum stability. There is also a water-cooling system, which is efficient when it comes to keeping the engine at an optimum temperature. If you like the speed, you may like the drift cars since they are all about the speed.

The ESC has low voltage protection which will protect the electronics in case of a power surge, and the brushless motor is powerful enough to take the Spartan where no RC boat has ever gone before.

Pros:

  • Gorgeous design
  • High speed
  • Multiple battery configurations
  • Easy to maneuver
  • Sturdy body and perfectly designed deep-V hull

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • No self-righting hull

Aquacraft Minimono Brushless 2.4Ghz (Perfect for Children)

Remote control system: Tactic TTX300 3-channel 2.4GHz SLT radio

Battery: 11.1V 1000-1600mAh LiPo

Run time: 15 to 20 minutes

Length: 18 inches

Speed: 26 to 28 mph

Special features: Water-cooled 28-30-2200kV brushless motor, 30 mm fiberglass propeller, ESC with low-voltage cut-off, Rudder with Breakaway design

The Minimono is a cute little boat with lots of great features that won’t let you down in a race on the local pond (although it also works great on a pool). I like to recommend it mostly to adults because it’s pretty fast, but it is great for kids as well.

You should know that it doesn’t come with a battery, so you have to put this on your shopping list as well. Still, the price is affordable especially if you consider the technology and power packed in this gorgeous looking boat.

The hull is a one-piece design made out of molded plastic, and the boat is lightweight and easy to maneuver due to the included transmitter. I like the fact that it won’t flip over regardless of the conditions and that the transmitter has a 3-channel configuration. This way, you can configure one of the channels to control any accessories you want to add.

The integrated receiver comes with a fail-safe function which will stop and center the boat when and if the signal is lost. However, I drove it on a big pond several times and never went out of range.

The motor is powerful and uses a water-cooling system to keep things running optimally. Also, the fiberglass propeller is quite aggressive.

Finally, I like the Minimono for both the cute and compact design and the incredible speed. It is, without doubt, one of the best RC boats for the money! And if you have a truck you can add additional fun to your hobby!

Pros:

  • Great looking design
  • Good speed
  • Innovative technologies
  • It won’t flip over
  • Long run time
  • Great construction

Cons:

  • Doesn’t come with a battery
  • No self-righting hull

Storm Engine 32″ PX-16 Super Power (Number 1 Speed Racing RC Boat)

Remote control system: Transmitter (8 AA Batteries not included)

Battery: 7.2V Ni-CD rechargeable battery

Range: 300 feet

Length: 32 inches

Speed: 20 to 25mph

Special features: Touch water to run function, High-Speed Twin RS-390SSH racing motors

The Storm PX-16 comes with a great design and some interesting features, but I wouldn’t recommend it for adults. It is a cheap boat with good features that’s a great gift for kids passionate by RC toys.

The body and hull are made of plastic, but it feels a bit flimsy in general. While it won’t disintegrate at first use, I don’t see it as a durable toy. It has a pretty good range and the included battery is impressive, but you might want to make some improvements.

For instance, you can add a 2.4 GHz receiver and include a more powerful battery (a 7.2V, 3000mAh) to make it faster and easier to control. The Storm PX-16 comes with a transmitter, but it’s pretty cheap – it will work well enough for the first few times, but you’ll feel the need for a better one pretty soon.

The boat is big and performs well on the water (pond or pool). It also has a cool feature that only allows the engine to run when the boat touches the water. Otherwise, the boat won’t start. This is useful when you let kids run the boat as it protects the engine from overheating.

I like the design and combination of colors (which may vary) and the fact that it comes with spare propellers and nuts. You may find that spare parts are a bit difficult to find since this is not a big RC brand.

Finally, I recommend checking all the screws before putting it on water. Many users complain about the propeller falling off while the boat was on the pond.  Regardless of these minor inconveniences, I still think this is a good starter boat for the money. It will do a great job as a gift as well.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Fast and steady
  • Great design
  • Complete package – ready to run from the box
  • Easy to upgrade
  • Good range

Cons:

  • Flimsy build
  • Standard battery is not that great
  • Cheap transmitter
  • Some elements might fall off

Udirc Venom 2.4GHz (Editor’s Choice)

Remote control system: 2.4 GHz

Battery: Li-Po 7.4V 600mAh

Battery charging time: 90 minutes

Run time: 15-20 minutes

Range: 120 meters

Length: Approx. 12 inches

Speed: 15 mph

Special features: Water-cooled 370-size motor, Self-righting feature, battery charges via USB port

The Udirc Venom is another boat that won’t dig a deep hole in your pocket and comes with some pretty interesting features. It works great on both ponds and pools, and it is powerful enough to drag another boat (in case you’re using it as a retrieval vehicle).

It is small and fast, and the body is durable. The engine implements a water-cooling system, and the hull has the one feature that makes this a fantastic boat: it can self-right if it gets flipped over. And the feature actually works in an exemplary manner!

Regarding the transmitter, the boat responds well to your commands, and you won’t lose signal on large ponds. Still, you will need to buy your own AA batteries to get the transmitter operational. Even more, there is an integrated low battery alarm that will emit a sound with about 3 to 5 minutes before you completely run out of juice. This is enough to bring your Venom to shore and plug it into any USB port available.

In terms of performance, the Venom is a fantastic racing boat! It will take up on any boat, and it withstands a bump & grind race extremely well. The boat is great at cutting corners or making abrupt turns without flipping over or derailing from the main path.

The motor is not one of the biggest, but it is a good fit for this boat. I only recommend to watch the with the water cooling system – the boat has a water inlet at the rear that lets water in and spits it out on the side. If the rear inlet gets blocked by debris or vegetation, then the water-cooling system won’t work, and the motor may overheat.

I think the Venom would be great as a gift for both kids and adults who are just starting their RC boating adventure. It is fast, compact, and extremely durable so it will be a great first boat!

Pros:

  • Super-fast and stable
  • Easy to maneuver even at high-speed
  • Lightweight and durable
  • Great range and run time
  • Battery charges on any USB port
  • Self-righting hull feature
  • Great price
  • Low battery alarm

Cons:

  • It is not waterproof – if water gets inside you have to dry it out
  • Water cooling system may fail

Pro Boat Blackjack Catamaran, 24-inch (Great Gift for Adults)

Remote control system: 2.4GHz Pro Boat radio system

Battery: 2-3 Cell (7.4V-11.1V) Li-Po (not included)

Battery charging time: Variable depending on the type of battery used

Run time: 5 minutes with 3S Li-Po, 2200mAh

Length: 24-inch

Speed: 30 MPH

Special features: Brushless 2000Kv water-cooled motor, Off-set rudder system, waterproof steering servo, Waterproof electronics

The Blackjack 24 is definitely one of the most beautiful RC racing boats I’ve ever seen! The body is compact and durable, and the red and black color scheme is both intimidating and attractive at the same time. Regarding the price, it may seem a bit steep, but if you find it on sale, it may fit just under 300 dollars.

The Catamaran hull is specially designed for rough water such as rivers but it will do just fine in a pond or lake. Still, I don’t recommend it for a pool as there is not enough space to see its full potential in action.

The 2000Kv motor and the 30Amp ESC offer enough power for the Blackjack to be the racing boat many dream about. However, you should know that it doesn’t come with a battery – the producer lets you decide the type of battery you want to use. For instance, you could add a 2S Li-Po battery but this means the boat will be slower.  That’s why a 3S Li-Po is the most recommended for this model.

I also recommend that you check all the screws and fittings before launching it to water the first time. Some users complained about losing different elements because some screws came loose. So, if you don’t want this happening to you, do a thorough inspection.

I like the rubber foam gasket that keeps the water from getting in, even if you go in reverse. It’s true that all electronics are waterproof, but it’s best if you keep the water out, just in case.

One word of caution: at high speeds, the water-cooling system is not as effective so you might have to do some upgrades.

Pros:

  • Really fast boat
  • Turns very well
  • Compact design and attractive color scheme
  • You can choose the type of battery

Cons:

  • A bit expensive
  • At high-speeds the water-cooling system may fail
  • Some screws may come loose
  • Comes without battery

FT012 Professional 2.4G Wireless 4CH (Super Choice for the Money)

Remote control system: 2.4G Wireless 4CH

Battery: 11.1V Lithium, 1800mAh, 25C

Battery charging time: About 3 hours

Run time: 5 to 6 minutes

Range: 100 to 150 Meters

Length: 460mm (18-inches)

Speed: 40-45KM/H

Special features: Water-cooling 2815-35000KV brushless motor, 35A super power two-way ESC, Flip over automatically

If you want a capable racing boat that won’t break the bank, the FT012 Professional is a fantastic choice! I like the design and color scheme, but I am mostly fascinated by the sturdy build. The hull and the entire body are made out of ABS plastic, which is durable and will keep its beautiful aspect for long.

The FT012 Professional is delivered ready to run from the box (except for the transmitter batteries) and implements a few great features for the money. For instance, the two-way ESC is also protected against power surges or low voltage which is great if you plan on giving this boat as a gift to kids.

The boat is also delivered with a nice-looking stand for when you’re not using it. Even more, the beautiful shape and gorgeous design make it a great candidate for any boat collection.

Regarding performance, I like driving it as it is super-responsive and it’s almost difficult to lose range. My pond is pretty big, and I didn’t have any problems crossing up and down, left to right. I’m not particularly happy with the short run time, but you can fix this by getting a few spare batteries.

Since it is a high-speed boat, it has an automatically flip over feature, which is more than necessary. The boat won’t flip over easily, but if you get a wave the wrong way, you may not be able to avoid it. These boats are super fun but so are cars such as Jeeps or Buggies.

Pros:

  • Great speed
  • Gorgeous design
  • Sturdy build
  • Great for both children and adults
  • Impressive features for the money
  • It is ready to run out of the box

Cons:

  • Short running time
  • Long charging time

Traxxas DCB M41 Brushless Catamaran (Best Looking R/C Boat)

Remote control system: Traxxas TQi 2. 4GHz radio

Battery: Two 11. 1v, 5000mAh Li-Po (not included)

Length: Over 40 inches

Speed: 50+ mph (on 6S Li-Po)

Special features: Traxxas stability management, Velineon VXL-6s Marine Brushless motor

The DCB-M41 from Traxxas is a huge RC boat! Even more, it is one of the most expensive models on sale on my list so I wouldn’t recommend getting it for kids. It’s mostly a boat for RC enthusiasts who want to get as close as possible to the boating experience.

With such a wide and long body, the DCB-M41 is a great fit for ocean or big ponds, but it will definitely be a waste if you take it for a pool. The catamaran hull design adds stability due to the wider stance, and it easily reaches high speeds for tons of fun!

Such a big boat must be supported by a powerful engine, and Traxxas chose the Velineon 540XL motor that can take you to some extreme 50+mph speeds. The engine is constantly cooled off by the water that goes through the speed control case and flows directly against the sealed motor jacket. This way, you don’t have to worry about overheating. Still, if this happens, the boat’s electronics are protected by on-board low voltage detection.

The Stability Management System from Traxxas (or TSM) is a wonderful addition for such a big RC boat. It kicks in when you take close corners and makes corrections when necessary. It is also great at maintaining a constant speed when the waters get rough.

I like the TQi controls from Traxxas a lot because they allow a Link Wireless Module (on sale separately) that can connect to your mobile device (Android and iOS). This gives you access to a user-friendly interface that allows a lot more fine tuning than the controller.

To summarize, the DCB-M41 is one of the best RC boats for sale right now, and if you can afford it, I recommend it with all my heart! Sadly, my review only covered parts of the amazing fun you can have with it. For the complete experience, you’ll need to try it yourself!

Pros:

  • Gorgeous looking boat
  • Wide stance on the water for increased stability
  • Well-designed and built
  • Innovative technologies in both the boat and the transmitter
  • Powerful motor
  • Electronics are waterproof and protected against power surges

Cons:

  • A bit expensive
  • Doesn’t come with batteries

KingPow Tempo H100 (Most Affordable)

Remote control system: 2.4G 4CH

Battery: 7.4 V, 600mAh Lithium

Battery charging time: 45mins

Run time: 6 to 8 minutes

Range: 150m

Length: 14 inches

Speed: 30km/h

Special features: Only starts in the water, hull with anti-tilt modular design, 180 degrees accurate orientation, water-cooling system

This is more of a hobby boat than a racing boat, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t fast. The body is made out of ABS resistant plastic, so it is great for children or beginners (it will take well on most impacts). However, it also has some metal components, so it is not recommended for salt water (there is the risk that the metal parts will rust).

It goes great in both ponds and pools and is pretty fast. It responds well to your commands, and the transmitter is easy to understand and use. Even more, it is fairly stable in water and can take 180 degree turns without flipping over.

The KingPow Tempo H100 comes ready to run out of the box (you only need transmitter batteries) and can be easily upgraded for more power. Still, you should know that it won’t run unless it is in water – this is a fail-safe for impatient children as it protects the engine from overheating (it has a water-cooling system).

The only downside is that it usually takes some water and you have to keep it dry in between uses. This means you have to empty it out every time you use it and dry it with a cloth. Still, this is not a big problem, just a small inconvenient.

Pros:

  • Lightweight and fast
  • Compact design
  • Water-cooling system
  • Fail-safe for overheating the engine
  • Works on most water surfaces
  • Comes completely equipped
  • Great price

Cons:

  • It takes on water, and you need to dry it

SZJJX RC Boat 2.4GHz 4 Channels (Most Durable)

Remote control system: 2.4GHz 4 Channels

Battery: 7.4V, 1500mAh Lithium Ion

Battery charging time: 45 minutes

Run time: 8 minutes

Range: 150m

Length: 14-inches

Speed: 30 Km/h

Special features: Works only on water, auto 180 Degree Turnover, self-righting hull

The SZJJX RC Boat is great as a gift for a teenager or a beginner since it won’t break the bank, but it packs some pretty great features. The boat is usually on sale for under 100 dollars, and you get a complete package with transmitter and battery included (no batteries for the transmitter though).

The boat is responsive, and the transmitter has controls for moving upward and backward, left and right, and automatically 180 degrees flipping. This allows you to do sharp turns and surprise your competitors in the middle of the race.

I like that it is fast and I recommend playing with it in a pond. In a tub or pool, it may jump right out due to limited space. The 150m range is enough for a large pond, so you don’t have to worry about running out of signal. Even more, the transmitter is equipped with an LCD screen so you can have access to data in real-time.

The boat only works on the water to protect the motor from overheating. This is because the cooling system is also based on water and, on land, it will not work effectively.

Pros:

  • Compact design
  • Lightweight and fast
  • Motor protection to overheating
  • Automatic 180 degrees flipping
  • Durable construction
  • Comes equipped with everything you need
  • Great price

Cons:

  • A charger is not included in the package
  • Long charging time
